White Lake Organics research laboratory is equipped with facilities to carry out research on diabetic and derma care products. Microbiology lab is specially designed and the required safety measures has been undertaken to ensure safe and contamination – free experiments. The list of equipment’s available at our R&D laboratory is as follows,
i. Digital balance
We have a high precision digital balance (Model: Web, 2012) for accurate weighing and formulations. This precision lab scale machine, with internal calibration, provides a much larger weighing chamber and smaller footprint than conventional balances.
ii. pH meter
The pH meter (Model: Infra, 2012), an electronic instrument used for measuring the pH (acidity or alkalinity) of a liquid and semi-solid samples through special probes . It consists of a special measuring probe (a glass electrode) connected to an electronic meter that measures and displays the pH reading.
iii. Rotary shaker
Rotary shaker (Model: Deep vision, RS-12R, 2012) are ideal for mixing and development of microbial cultures, chemical assays, solvent based assays etc., in microbiological and cell culture experiments. Compact drive mechanism ensures high stability and reliability even in continuous operation and uneven load distribution.
iv. Rotary vacuum evaporator
The ability to reclaim both the solvent and sample is important for both the bottom line and the environment. Rotary vacuum evaporator (Model: Super Fit, PBV7D, 2012) employs rotational speeds of up to 280rpm with vacuum conditions of < 1 mm Hg to vaporize, condense, and ultimately distil solvents. Rotary evaporator can accommodate sample size of up to 1 litre. Sophisticated extractions were carried out to prepare herbal extracts with various solvents.
v. Orbital shaker
Our laboratory possess good quality orbital shaker (Model: Deep vision) to allow a number of samples to be stirred simultaneously under identical conditions. In an orbital shaker, the platform moves in a circular motion of small diameter to create a vortex effect within the samples which is ideal for aeration.
vi. Centrifuge
In order to prepare serum for proper analysis, we are equipped with good quality table top centrifuge (Model: Tarson, 2012). Bench top centrifuge, as the name implies, is designed for use on a bench top and are capable of fairly high speeds as well as handling large total sample volumes.
vii. Spectrophotometer
Our laboratory is equipped with high end spectrophotometer (Model: Roy instruments, IR 513-1, 2012) to quantify phytochemicals, to carry out turbidity assays for checking microbial growth and to study the spectral property of plant extracts. It measures the amount of ultraviolet & visible light transmitted by a liquid sample.
viii. Incubator
It’s used to maintain the growth of microorganisms through controlling temperature, humidity or other factors which is essential for the growth of microorganisms. The incubator maintains optimal temperature, humidity and other conditions such as the carbon dioxide (Co2) and oxygen content of the atmosphere inside. Incubators are essential to carry out experimental work in cell biology, microbiology and molecular biology and are used to culture both bacterial as well as eukaryotes.
ix. Laminar airflow chamber
Laminar flow is used to maintain the sterile environment. It’s a carefully enclosed bench designed to prevent contamination of microbiological samples, where, air is drawn through a HEPA filter and blown in a very smooth, laminar flow towards the user. The cabinet is usually made of stainless steel with no gaps or joints where spores might collect.
x. Semi-auto analyser
Standard quality semi-auto analyser (Model: Star 21 plus) in our laboratory is used to test blood parameters including glucose, blood lipids, liver function tests, kidney function, ions tests and cardiac muscle enzymes tests.
xi. Binocular microscope
Our laboratory is equipped with binocular microscope (Model: Olympus binocular microscope, CX21i) to visualize the microbial morphology, ointment texture, histopathology examination, and blood cell visualization. This instrument allows the researchers to examine their cultures at close range, since microbes are not visible to naked eye. They are used to visualise, characterise and identify microbes.
xii. Rotary microtome
The rotary microtome (Model: Adarsh, 2013) offers a sleek, but sturdy, straightforward instrument for sectioning of paraffin embedded tissue to carry out histopathology experiments in study animals.
xiii. Hand blender
We are equipped with quality hand blender (Model: Prestige, PHB 6.0, 2013) that is suitable for the widest range of applications including mixing, emulsifying, homogenizing, disintegrating, and dissolving – with efficiency and flexibility.
